Wilma L. Cockrell

Wilma LaFaye Foshee Cockrell, age 93 passed away on Tuesday, Jan 10, 2017 at a Leesville hospital.

Faye (Maw Maw Faye in later years) was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.  She was devoted and dedicated to her family and friends.  Faye was a talented homemaker and made sure no one needed anything, especially food.  The door was always open at Maw Maw Fayes. When you left her home, you were loaded down with homemade pickles, jelly, cakes or anything she could pack you with.  Sometimes a jar of pickles would end up at the hospital when someone was sick but it always seemed appropriate as that was their favorite.  In younger years Faye was caregiver to relatives and friends in the community.  She drove many country miles and spent countless hours offering assistance to those in need.  Her children brought special joy to her life but the grands, greats and great greats were here limelight in later years.

Faye was a graduate of Rosepine Schools.  She married Oscar Foshee and lived in the Rosepine area until 1976 when they relocated to Haynesville, La. where Oscar served as pastor to Emerson Primitive Baptist Church.  She worked at Hooks Dept. Store in DeRidder and also at Rosepine Schools as substitute teacher and cafeteria worker.  Faye enjoyed her role as pastor’s wife and made the ‘Whitehall Community’ her home.  After the death of Oscar in 1979 she married Marvin Cockrell and once again moved back to the Rosepine area where she has lived a full and productive life.  The poem ‘Sea of Galilee’ is the way Faye lived her life.  The River Jordan flows into two seas, the Galilee and the Dead.  The Galilee does not hoard its waters as the Dead Sea does.  Faye was truly a ‘Sea of Galilee.’

Proceeded in death:  Parents – William R Foshee and Josie V Hunt; Brothers – Norman, Kenneth, Durwood and Owen Foshee; Sisters – Winnie Eaves, Bennie Zimmerman, Helen Fontenot and June Hill; Son – Lealon Foshee; Husbands – Oscar Foshee and Marvin Cockrell; Survived by:  Daughter Sharon Chevalier and Husband M L; Son Robert Foshee and wife Louise; 8 grandchildren – 15 great- grandchildren – 6 great great-great-grandchildren; Caregivers – Paulette Quesenberry and Mary Thompson

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January, 11, 2017 from 5-9 PM and again on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 12 PM until time of service at 2 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Rosepine Cemetery in Rosepine, LA.
