Willie Max Nichols, 84, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, November 18, 2018.


Max was born July 23, 1934 to Lum and Erse Nichols and was the youngest of their children.  He was a graduate of Merryville High School and McNeese State University.  He retired from the Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole. Max previously spent many years in the Louisiana Department of Child Welfare and Social Services.  He enjoyed hunting, gardening and reading. He attended Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church and loved all of his brethren and sisters in hope.


Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Rhonda Washington Nichols of Merryville, LA; son, Terry Nichols and Kathleen of Merryville, LA; daughters, Chris Jopling and Randy of Merryville, LA and Laura Henderson and James of DeRidder, LA; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Columbus and Ersula Nichols; siblings, Willie Mae Meadows, Rae Thompson, Lois Blackmon, Mabel Stamps, Edwin Nichols, C.A. Nichols, and Bentley Nichols.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 21, 2018, also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Brother Scott Myers will officiate the service.  Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jason Jopling, Craig Nichols, Bryan Nichols, Skye Stracner, Chance Stracner, and Justin Blackmon.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Curtis Meadows, Ronnie Nichols, Bobby Thompson, Mike Thompson, and Jody Blackmon. Burial will follow at Cannon Cemetery in Merryville, LA.

The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to our special care givers from Brighton Bridge Hospice, Carla, Brenda, and Diane.  Your love and concern over the past year is very appreciated.
