Wallace Lawrence Wagner, Sr., 86, of Florien, LA passed away peacefully at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center on January 27, 2016.  He was born April 20, 1929 in Alexandria, LA to Wallace William and Anna Lawrence Wagner.  The oldest of six children, he graduated from Holy Savior Menard High School in 1947.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, Richard, and Charles.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nina Webb Wagner; sons, Wallace Jr., Christopher L., and Patrick W. Wagner; grandchildren, Wallace III “Trey”, Michael, and Bailie Wagner, and Logan Wyatt.  He also adored his four great grandchildren, Addisyn A., Wallace IV” Tyce”, Zayd A., and Ezryi J. Wagner.  Also missing Wallace are his surviving brother, H. Rand Wagner; and his sister, Bella Higdon.

Lawrence, as he was known to his family, and Shag, to his friends, was a kind, gentle, strong man that was respected for his quiet grace.  He was a loving doting father and will be deeply missed.  Many kids grow up thinking their father is Superman, the Wagner sons were blessed to have known he was Superman.  He loved golf and thoroughly enjoyed living on the golf course.  He loved cheering for his favorite teams, LSU and McNeese in the collegiate ranks and the Saints in the professional.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1949-1952.

He retired from 25 years of employment security for the State of Louisiana and 10 years for JTPA in Vernon and Beauregard Parishes.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Alzheimer’s research.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Funeral Service will be Monday, February 1, 2016 at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Alexandria Memorial Gardens in Alexandria, LA.
