Victoria "Micky" Bailey

Victoria “Micky” Butler Bailey was born July 29, 1932, to Melvin and Myrl Butler. She was the youngest of nine siblings. The Butler family originally moved to Louisiana from Oklahoma in 1916, and her grandparents built a house across from what is now Broadlands Church, and her grandfather was instrumental in establishing the Broadland Community Building. The Butler families were involved in the timber industry and later, her father did carpentry work during WWII.

Micky and her parents lived near the grandparents and later moved to a dwelling on Hauser Road that was originally Bannister School House. She attended Longville School, where she played on the girls’ basketball team, and graduated Valedictorian in her class of five students.

She married Sammy D. Bailey of Rosepine the month after graduating in 1950. They moved to Beaumont, Texas, where Sammy was employed.

After moving to DeRidder in 1960, Micky served as a 38-year employee at Beauregard Federal Savings and Loan Bank.

She was a devoted member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she served at treasurer for 29 Years. On October 28, 2018, the congregation along with Mickey’s family came together to celebrate “Micky Bailey Day” as a thank you for over 30 years of service and dedication to the church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Janet B. Dollar and her husband, John; grandson, Jacob “Sonny” Jones and his wife, Ashley; granddaughter, Sarah Jones Smith and her husband, Brandon; great grandchildren, Brayden Smith, Bryce Smith, Madison Jones, Kinsley Smith, Kinton Smith, Cheyenne Jones and Tori Smith.

Micky was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Sammy D. Bailey; daughter, Renee Bailey Welch; grandson, Justin Kern-Dollar.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
