Shelton E. Matthis, Sr., 81 of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Friday, September 23, 2016 in DeRidder, LA.

Mr. Matthis is survived by his son, Shelton E. Matthis, Jr. and wife Mary of Merryville, LA; his daughter, Tammye Gamez and husband Jerrell of Shepherd, TX; his brothers, Sam Matthis and wife Judy of Merryville, LA, Kenneth Matthis and wife Wanda of Merryville, LA; his sister, Lola Mae Morrison of Merryville, LA; his granddaughters, Crystal Galvan and husband Theo of Morton, TX, Chancly Rassau and husband Jacob of Monument, KS, Casey Gamez of Shepherd, TX; his great grandchildren, Tyler Galvan, Maverick Galvan; and a host of nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ada Matthis; his brothers, Theron Collins, Autwan Matthis, Billy Glen Matthis and his sister, Annie Belle Moses.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016 from 5:00-9:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Merryville, LA.  Burial will follow at Cooper Cemetery in Merryville, LA.
