Samuel C. Lofton Sr. was born to the union of Nelson and Queen Lofton on August 20, 1939 in Longville, Louisiana. Sam, also known as “Dirty-Red,” “Rock,” and most notably “Uncle Sam,” was an icon in the DeRidder community, as he never met a stranger. He was known for his candor, jokes, pranks, and ability to talk to anyone about anything. In the Sawmill Quarter Cab neighborhood, Sam wore many hats. He was a friend, brother, father, husband, uncle, cab driver, community ambulance, counselor, and so much more.
Because Sam loved God, he devoted his life to his church. He served as a faithful deacon, Sunday school teacher, and currently served as the Sunday School Superintendent. Sam was indeed a true servant of God.
He leaves to celebrate and cherish his legacy his wife of 53 years Modest Lofton (DeRidder); one daughter Mary Lofton (Lake Charles); one son Calvin Lofton (Lafayette); two granddaughters, Shambrecca Roberts and Tamia Joshua; two great-grandchildren Terran Roberts & Tierra Roberts; one brother, Jimmy Lofton (California); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Queen Lofton; two daughters, baby Margo Lofton and Marilyn Joshua; and siblings Robert Lee Lofton, Nathan Lofton, Chester Ray Lofton, Floyd Lofton, Leroy Lofton, and Betty Vincent.
