Sammy Ray "Pop" Goodeaux

September 4, 1938 — December 30, 2024

DeRidder, LA

Sammy Ray “Pop” Goodeaux, 86, of DeRidder, LA, left his temporary home for Heaven on December 30, 2024. He was born in DeRidder on September 4, 1938, to Bertrand and Tressie Hines Goodeaux.

Pop started out in New Orleans as a commercial painter throughout Louisiana. When he returned home to DeRidder, he started his own paint contracting business with his dad and brother Jimmy. He spent a good portion of his life as a cattleman and ended his career as a role player at Fort Polk. When he wasn’t working, Pop could be found in a duck blind or deer stand in the winter and in a boat catching lunkers in the summer. He had a love for the outdoors, a heart of gold, and always had a good story to tell.

Those left to cherish his memory are three sons from his first marriage, Dennis Goodeaux and Danny (Donna) Goodeaux, all of Monroe, LA and Grant (Becky) Goodeaux of Richmond, TX and one son from his second marriage, Danny (Jennifer) Hernandez of DeRidder. He also leaves behind nephew Davy (Vickie) and nine grandchildren, Sam, Stephanie, Danielle, Cole, Caitlyn, Caden, Josh, Jacob and Maverick. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolyn (Swearengin), son Greg Goodeaux, daughter Pamela Hernandez, sisters Betty Hooks, Norma Glen Cain, Larry Bell Hicks and Barbara Rhame and brother Jim Goodeaux.

A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of Myers- Colonial Funeral Home at 1:00PM on Saturday January 4, 2025.
