Rodney W. Roberson, Sr. very quietly and peacefully took wings and departed our presence early Monday morning, December 20, 2021. He was born in Shreveport, LA to Emma (Roberson) Wilson and the late Aaron E. Mazyck, Sr.
He attended school in the Beauregard Parish School System. He was baptized at an early age at Anders Chapel under the leadership of the late Bishop Vino Anders. During those days, Rodney and his siblings were Bible scholars, not by choice. All of the children that grew up in Anders Chapel know exactly what I‘m talking about. (LOL) You came to church; sat on the front row; didn’t go to sleep; didn’t run to the bathroom every five minutes; didn’t tiptoe out with your finger up; you paid attention, listened and learned the Bible and was happy to get a snack when you went home. In the late 80s, his membership was transferred to God’s Temple of Deliverance under the late Bishop Fred Ross, Jr. He spent approximately 21 years in the Minnesota area working as a dietician and salesman. After experiencing a short term illness, he returned home in 2019. During this period he was disabled; however, he worked continued to work as a laborer for Roberson Cement Finishing; and a tradesman for S&G Maintenance & Repairs. A hustler and splitting image of Papa, that he was. If you knew him, he left an impact on your life to remember.
Rodney enjoyed life, in his own way and would say to you today - Drop an edible brownie or piece of candy in the zip lock bag on you way out the door. And most of you would oblige.
He was preceded in death by his father, Aaron Mazyck Sr; grandparents: Huey P. Roberson, Sr.; Wilbur Porter Sr; Mary Atkins Mazyck.
Cherishing his memory and legacy are: mother, Emma (James) Wilson; 2-sons, Christopher Bolton (DeRidder); Rodney, Jr (Savannah, GA); 3 daughters, Roneisha and Raveen (Minneapolis, MN), Rachel (Jesup, GA); 4 grandchildren; 1-brother, Aaron (Sharon) Mazyck; 3 sisters, Carolyn (Lee) Hughes; Mona (Harris) Obanion; Ida (Ronald) Mazyck all of DeRidder; grandmother: Mary Roberson; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at Salvation Center, St. Mary Church of God in Christ in DeRidder, LA. Bishop William T. Roberson, Sr., Pastor Frank Williams will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, LA.
