Robert "Tootsie" Davis

Robert Ray (Tootsie) Davis, 85, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, October 20, 2013.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn Davis of DeRidder, LA: son, Ray Davis and wife Carol; Stepson, Giles Hickman and wife Cheryl of Longville, LA; Daughter, Roberta Bailes; Sister, Florence Roy and husband Anthony of Iowa, LA; Grandchildren: Kyle and Cory Davis, Polly Bailes; Step Granchildren: Tammy Dines and husband Mike of San Antonio, TX and Tabitha Hollman and husband David of San Antonio, TX. Step Great grandchildren: Connor and Carson Hollman of SanAntonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Katie Davis; Brother, Ruben Davis; Sister, Mary Lou Johnson.

Mr. Davis was a native of Oberlin, LA, but has been a DeRidder resident for many years. He was in the Navy for several years serving as an aircraft mechanic, and was also in the Merchant Marines. He was of the Baptist Faith.

After service, he attended McNeese State University and received his degree in Horticulture. He was Seed Orchard Superintendent for Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. He then retired in 1986 from the department. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting in Arkansas and Colorado.

Visitation will be held, Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 4-9 PM at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 2 PM at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow in the Cannon Cemetery (Hwy 190 West) in Merryville, LA. Elder Truman Keel will officiate.
