Robert Earl Burks

CSM (Retired) Robert Earl Burks, 76, passed from this life on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be Monday, November, 19, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00p.m. at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2:00p.m. also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Merryville Cemetery, in Merryville, LA.

Robert Burks, enlisted in the National Guard on March 13, 1954.  He joined the United States Army on March 10, 1961 and retired on October 31, 1985 as a CSM.  During his 31 years of distinguished service, he was the recipient of the Viet Nam Service Medal, The Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal, The Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm Leaf, The Bronze Star Medal and The Legion of Merit.  His last tour of duty was at Ft. Hood, TX, as CSM of the 13thSupport Command.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Loretta Burks; son, Col. Robert Earl Burks Jr. and wife Angie of Monterrey, CA; daughters, Trisha Nepomuceno and husband Yves of San Diego, CA and Rebecca White and husband Gary of Lake Charles, LA; grandchildren, Heather, Sophie, Leah, Anna, Aaron, Joseph, Robert, Ryan and Leo, and great grandchild, Landon.
