Oliver Sweetie Bell Lewis

Sweetie Bell (Oliver) Lewis, 91, of DeRidder, Louisiana passed from this life on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder, Louisiana. She was born on February 4, 1920 in Bon Weir, Texas to the late Leo and Ida Oliver.

She graduated from College of Texas with a teaching degree in English. She married Purvis D. Lewis on December 25, 1942. Together they had five children; Judson, Scherry, Purvis, Kathy and Brenda. Sweetie worked for and retired from Beauregard Memorial Hospital. She also owned and operated the neighborhood grocery store with her husband. She baked and sold the best pecan cookies and candy in town. She was a faithful member of the New Hope C.M.E. Church for over 60 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Purvis D. Lewis; son: Judson L. Lewis and daughters: Scherry L. (Lewis) O’Neal and Kathy B. (Lewis) Gilpin.

In her departing she leaves to cherish her memory daughter: Brenda Lewis Bell; son: Purvis L. Lewis, Sr.; sister: Cassie Grisby; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
