It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nita Frances Reed Welch, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated teacher. Nita left us on March 11, 2025, at the age of 78, at Willis Knighton Hospital in Bossier City, LA.
Born on December 15, 1946, in Elizabeth, LA, Nita grew up in Buna, TX, which she always considered her true home. She married the love of her life, Teddy Welch, and the two made their way to Sugartown, LA, where they raised their family over the course of a 55-year marriage. Nita was proud of her two children and absolutely adored her grandchildren, attending every ball game and event she could possibly make it to-she was truly their biggest cheerleader.
A dedicated professional, Nita spent 32 years teaching first grade at East Beauregard Elementary School. She earned her Master's Degree plus 30 from McNeese State University, always striving to better herself for her students. Her impact on countless young lives will not be forgotten.
Nita was deeply involved in her community and her church, Smyrna Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, made the church bulletin, taught Sunday School, and volunteered at the Pregnancy Care Center. Her love for gardening and genealogy kept her busy, bringing her joy in her daily life.
Nita touched the lives of so many, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her-especially her loving husband, Teddy, and her cherished family. May her spirit live on in the hearts of everyone she inspired.
Nita was truly an angel on earth. Kind, loving, thoughtful, forgiving and a fearless follower of Jesus. Anywhere and everywhere she went, people knew of her love for Jesus and her honest demeanor! Her children will rise up and call her blessed! She will be missed by all but she is set free and worshipping at the feet of Jesus.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Teddy Welch of Sugartown, LA; son, Scott Alan Welch and Cher of Vivian, LA; daughter, Connie Lynn Welch Sanderlin and Jason of Haughton, LA; grandchildren, Blakely Welch, Mason Welch, Troy Sanderlin, Chase Sanderlin, Kallie Sanderlin and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Nita was preceded in death by her parents, Beulas and Marjorie Reed; brother, Billy Reed; sister, Betty Reed Klutts.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Nita's life together. A public viewing will be held at Smyrna Baptist Church in Sugartown, LA on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 1:00 PM.
