MSG William Monroe Whitehead, 48, of Fort Polk, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
MSG Whitehead was a member of the Louisiana National Guard for almost 30 years. He was a member of 3-156th for over 20 years. He was deployed 3 times, two times with the 3-156th, the third time was with 139th RSG. He deployed once as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle dismount in 2004-2005, then later as the FSC Motor Sergeant in 2010. He worked as a Dual Status Federal Technician for over 20 years and at MATES#71 at Fort Polk on 3-156thequipment for over 10 years. He was currently employed at FMS#11 in Lake Charles, supporting 3-156th equipment and a current member of the 1086th TC in Bunkie. He was a true friend, a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was a Bandit. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed.

He served with the Louisiana Army National Guard from May 3, 1991 through February 23, 2021. He attended BCT and AIT at Fort Benning, Georgia 1991-1992.
MSG Whitehead’s Mobilized service included Operation Inherent Resolve 2017-2018, Operation Iraqi Freedom 2010-2011, Operation Iraqi Freedom 2004-2005.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sandie Whitehead of Fort Polk, LA; sons, Corey Trumps of Silsbee, TX, Aaron Nicholas Whitehead of Fort Polk, LA; daughters, Dusti Comeaux and Michael of Orange, TX, Lynnette Brooke Whitehead of Fort Polk, LA; mother, Linda Whitehead of Merryville, LA; brothers, Casey Whitehead and Joni of DeQuincy, LA, Micheal Whitehead and Sarah of Merryville, LA; George Whitehead and Tiffany of DeRidder, LA; sisters, Laura Whitehead of DeRidder, LA, Billie Johnson and Erwin, Jr. of Sulphur, LA. Eva Morrison of Bridge City, TX; grandchildren, Kaylei Comeaux, Brylee Comeaux, Chloe Trumps, Rylen Bailey, Kylan Trumps and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hughie Whitehead and his grandparents.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021 from 12:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Brother Jason Fortenberry will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be National Guard Honors Team. Burial will follow at Old Cypress Cemetery in Rosepine, LA.
