Mercury Spikes Olivier

Our Queen, Mercury Spikes-Olivier was born in DeRidder, LA on November 12, 1936. Mrs. Mercury peacefully died Monday, September 30, 2024, at home surrounded by her 6 children, son-in-law, grandkids, and great grandkids. 

As a girl, Mercury accepted Christ as her Lord and savior and was baptized under the leadership of the late great Superintendent C. B. Norris at Zion Hill Church of God in Christ. Mercury was highly active in the church from a youthful age, learning and playing piano and singing in the choir. Served on the Mother’s Board, Missionary, and taught Sunday school. 

Mercury attended Southern University, and McNeese State University where she received her cosmetology degree. After completion, she owned and operated her own salon. Mercury also was an educator where she taught first grade at Beauregard Elementary School. 

Mercury was preceded in death by her husbands, Oscar Spikes and Herbert Olivier, son Perry Spikes, grandsons, Christopher Crosley and Miko Harris, her parents, Mary Booker & Albert Martin, brother Jefferson Davis Martin, stepsister Joyce Turk and stepbrothers, A.G. Booker and Willie Booker. 

She is survived by son, Sercial Crosley, daughters Terese Harris (Priscilla Hall), Della Spikes, Pearlette Matthews (Courtney Matthews), Geneva Jackson (Nate Jackson), and Tanme Jones; stepdaughter, Brenda Olivier. Mercury is also survived by grandchildren: Alex Alvarez, Sir Tyeous Spikes, Winter Spikes, Jasmine Sheffield, Antonio Sparks, Adrian Sparks, Andrew Sparks, Aric Sparks, Jelani Aakquanakhann, Briana Matthews, Cameron Matthews, Ebony Todd, Jalon Jones, Jared Jones, as well as great grandchildren: Mikel Harris, Mikaya Harris, Mya Harris, Canon Sparks, Dahnyelle Sparks, Jasmine Sparks, London Bryant, Jade Sparks, Lauren Bryant, Emmett Sparks, Aiden Sparks, Khari Sparks, Aliyah Sheffield, Langston Sheffield; sisters Audrey Johnson, Kathleen Williams, and Maddie Ward. Though we will miss her smiles, hugs and I Love Yous, we will rejoice in knowing she is in the presence of our Almighty Lord! 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM at Norris Memorial Church of God in Christ, 501 East North St., DeRidder, LA. Pastor Murray C. Piper will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Spikes Cemetery in Bancroft, LA.
