Melvin Ray Bailey

Melvin Ray Bailey passed from this life on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to George Bailey and Iva (Jackson) Bailey in DeRidder, LA on August 30, 1951. He was a lineman starting at the age of 19 and served as a supervisor throughout his career. In his younger days you would find Melvin roping and attending rodeos. He loved sharing his love of hog and deer hunting as well as fishing with his two grandsons, Koltyn and Jace. Melvin was his grandchildren’s biggest fan and on weekends you would find him at a game cheering them on. Friday nights he was supporting Bailey, his granddaughter, as she cheered for The Mighty Trojans. He did not miss a Saturday to cheer on the East Beauregard Youth Football League and Youth Cheerleaders. Koltyn, Jace and Karmyn were his grandbabies but he was the whole teams Pawpaw and biggest fan.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Terrell (Harper) Bailey; daughters, Brooke Bailey, Amber (Campbell) Barrett and son-n- love Mathew Barrett, Crystal Bailey, Cheyenne Bailey and son, Blake Campbell; brother-n-law of 63 years, Delbert Ernst; eleven grandchildren, Bailey Miller, Koltyn Barrett, Jace Bailey, Karmyn Barrett, George Bailey, Brittany (Bailey) Maricle, Dray Bailey, Alexis Carr, Adelynn Dodd, Karma Bailey and Serenity Parker; two great grandchildren, Payton Bailey and Lilah Bailey and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by both his parents; two sons, George Edward Bailey and William Darrell Bailey; and one sister, Mirinda Ernst.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2022 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Brother Frank Ott will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Elton Jordan, Jeremy Jordan, Garrett Cooley, Calvin Coleman, David Bailey, Matt Barrett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Stracener, Koltyn Barrett, Jace Bailey, George Bailey. Burial will follow at Marlow Cemetery in Cravens, LA.
