Marion Danice Smith “Granny” Jeans, 85, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life during the early morning hours of Thursday, May 16, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.


Granny’s greatest joy in life was gathering all of her family for Sunday dinners and making sure they all were together to enjoy her delicious food. Some of their favorite things for her to make were her dumplings, biscuits and turnips. She worked at Merryville High School for fifteen years as a custodian. Marion and Charlie lived with Webb Burke in the original Burkes Historic Log Cabin, which is now a part of the Merryville Museum in Merryville, LA. She is loved and will be missed by all who knew her.


Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Wesley Jeans and Rhoda of Merryville, LA, Jeffery “Red” Jeans and Celeste of Merryville, LA; daughters, Janet Daniels and Dennis of Merryville, LA, Danielle West and John of Merryville, LA; brother, Charles Smith and Rhonda of Jasper, TX; sisters, June Low and Debruel of Burkeville, TX, Nelda Miller and Sky of Burkeville, TX, Jacqueline Smith Morgan of Orangefield, TX, Phyllis Smith Paul of Orangefield, TX; grandchildren, Peewee Daniels and Nicole of Starks, LA, Donald Ray Daniels and Notty, Charlie Daniels and Diana, Jon Wesley Jeans, Shonda Farris and Chuck, Shelby Owen and Parker, all of Merryville, LA, Erika Fall and Donovan of Alvin, TX, Cory Jeans of Dothan, AL, Ryan Jeans and Ashely of Iron Station, NC; nineteen great grandchildren  and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jeans; son, Daniel Jeans; grandson, Brandon Jeans, father, George Smith; mother, Lucille Gunter; stepmother, Maw Mac; brothers, David Rainer, Henry Smith, Bob Smith, B.J. Gunter.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at Boxwood Church of Christ in Bivens, LA. Pastor Jason Fortenberry, Reverend Sky Miller, Reverend Wesley Stanley will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Cory Jeans, Parker Owen, Chad Keel, Austin Daniels, Payton Williams, Michael Ramirez, Jon Wesley Jeans. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charlie Daniels, Jack Daniels, Bentley West. Burial will follow at Meadows Cemetery in Merryville, LA.


The family would like to thank Heather Nortman, NP, Heart of Hospice of Lake Charles and all the caring medical assistants. A very special thank you to the family nurse, Rosie Jeans for stepping up and never leaving Granny’s side during her final days.


Family and friends will gather at Granny’s home for fellowship and a meal immediately following the burial.
