Sister Linda Delores Simon was born in DeRidder, Louisiana on September 1, 1949. She departed this life on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital at the age of 68.
She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother, wife and grandmother that believed in the power of prayer. She graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1967 and she attended Jarvas Christian College. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant at the Logistic Readiness Center on Fort Polk, LA and retired after 31 years of service.
Sister Linda was a faithful member of Starlight Missionary Baptist Church (SMBC). She was the Director of the Usher Board, Class #10 Younger Women’s & Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Prison Ministry and a Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) Assistant Teacher. She helped plan and coordinate SMBC Women’s Conferences and Leadership Training Schools. She earned her Dean Certification from the Sunday School Publishing Board of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. and served as the Associate Dean of the Starlight Missionary Baptist Church Christian Leadership School. She was a National Certified Leadership School Teacher and taught several required courses during the Lone Star District Baptist Congress of Christian Education of Jasper, Texas and the Calcasieu District Congress of Christian Education of Lake Charles, Louisiana. She took on the Directorship of the new face of the Baptist Training Union (BTU) which is now called “Living the Baptist Faith”. She had Christian Education for her Church at Heart.
She was a longtime member of the Ebonite Cultural Unlimited Club, member of the NAACP, and volunteer for Beauregard Memorial Auxiliary. Most of all she loved spreading and reaching God’s Word.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Steve & Viola Cole; her parents, Bobby & Bertha Hargrove and sister, Evelyn Conerly.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband: Franklin J. Simon of DeRidder, Louisiana; daughter, Charmain Collins (Alfred Jr.) of Shreveport, Louisiana; stepdaughter, Rose Nero (Bobby) of DeRidder, Louisiana; stepson, Michael Simon of DeRidder, Louisiana; a sister, Eloyce Leger of DeRidder, Louisiana; brothers, Timothy Leger (Joyce) of DeRidder, Louisiana, Lionel Coleman of Alexandria, Louisiana and Jerome Coleman of Ontario, California; three grandchildren: Zane Collins, Jacolby Green and Robert Nero; aunts, uncle and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
