Leo James Garner, 87, of Sugartown, LA, passed from this life peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2014 at his home. A pillar in the community, Leo lived in Sugartown, LA all his life. He was born on July 24, 1926 in Sugartown, LA to Paul and Octavia Garner. He graduated from Sugartown High school in 1944. On May 18, 1946 he married Bobbie Faye Andrews in Sugartown, LA.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Charles Owen Garner and wife Lena of Patterson, LA, Earl Stanley Garner and wife Karen of Sugartown, LA, and Jeffery Lynn Garner and wife Jane of Sugartown, LA; daughters, Reda Fae Garner DeMary of Lake Charles, LA, Peggy Ann Garner Dronet of Jackson, MS, Helen Kay Garner Ritter and husband Kevin of Kinder, LA; brother, Henry Garner of Haynesville, LA; sisters, Catherine Bostrom of DeRidder, LA, Mable O’Neal of Tyler, TX, and Pauline Taylor of Port Arthur, TX; 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Faye Andrews Garner; and son Leo James “Jimmie” Garner, Jr. The family sends a heartfelt thanks to Dr.Carl Fastabend. Mr. Garner was a soybean farmer, school board member, ironworker, Navy World War II Veteran, and wonderful father of seven. He had a magnetic personality and will be greatly missed by many.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA and Thursday, June 12, 2014 beginning at 10:00am until 2:00pm at Smyrna Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 2:00pm at Smyrna Baptist Church in DeRidder. Burial will follow at Sugartown Cemetery. Rev. Frank Ott Jr. will officiate.
