Joyce Rae Hickman, 86, of DeRidder, LA, stepped into Heaven on Saturday, May 17, 2014 with her son and daughter-in-law at her side.  Joyce was born on December 24, 1927 to Robert and Mattie Miers of DeRidder.  She graduated from DeRidder High School and worked for 28 years until retirement in 1989 as the budget Officer at Fort Polk Army Post.  She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of DeRidder, a member of Joy Singers Choir, and a 19 year member of Pinehurst Chapter #33, Order of Eastern Star.


Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marshall O. Hickman; daughter, Katherine Janelle; son, Marshall Wayne; sisters, Bobbie Mae Cooper and Geneva Denise Miers; parents, Robert and Mattie Miers.  She is survived by her son, Roger D. Hickman and devoted daughter-in-law, Carla, of Whitehouse, TX; grandsons, Marshall Ryan and Kevin Reid Hickman of Whitehouse, TX and Jeremy (Lauren), Timothy(Sarah) and Stephen(Jennifer) Hickman, all of San Antonio, TX; brother, Thomas Miers; sister Myra Jean Warren both of DeRidder, LA; 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many cherished friends.


Visitation will be Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 5:30pm until 9:00pm and Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 9:00am until 10:30am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 10:30am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, LA, with an Eastern Star Ceremony.  Rev. Larry Craig of Tyler, TX and Rev. Lindsey Burns of DeRidder will officiate.  Special thanks to Hospice of East Texas, Keena Berry and Innovations Home Health Care, and staff at Rosewood Assisted Living of Newton, TX.
