Jimmie Ross Mercer

d. March 19, 2014

July 2, 1942 - March 19, 2014

Jimmie Ross Mercer, 71, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Wednesday, March 19th, 2014.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Joyce, a daughter, Valerie of Homestead, FL and a son, James of Keystone Heights, FL. Jim was the proud grandfather of Cherokee (10), Lakota (9) and Jeremiah (14) and a beloved uncle and friend to many.

He was the youngest son of Clinton and Ethel (Regan) Mercer of Early County, GA, and brother to six siblings (Bill, Stanley, Nora, Vivian, Bettye and Phyllis) who are all now most certainly enjoying his company on the other side.

He spent much of his young life in Avon Park and Gainesville, FL. His work as a diesel engine mechanic took him to such locations as Green Harbor and Duxbury, MA where he worked on commercial fishing boats and luxury yachts. Jim worked for many years as maintenance manager at the Waldo Farmers' and Flea Market in Waldo, FL and as kitchen manager of the North Florida Christian Service Camp in Keystone Heights, FL. Jim and Joyce planned only a short trip to DeRidder, LA following retirement in 2006 but enjoyed it so much they stayed. He leaves behind many happy memories of his time in Louisiana.

Viewing and Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at  2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Pastor Johnny Johnson will officiate.
