James "Jimmy" Eugene Cryer

James “Jimmy” Eugene Cryer, 75, of Rosepine, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.

Jimmy was a carpenter, a trade that he learned from his father.  He was self-employed most of his career as a General Contractor but he was best known for his beautiful, custom cabinetry work and attention to detail.


He loved Rosepine and wanted to serve the people by public service.  He was first elected by the people to serve as Alderman in 1976.  He served for 32 years and was recently recognized for consecutive years of service by the Louisiana Municipal Association in 2014. He was a 32 degree Mason.  He was a loyal, trustworthy man that never met a stranger.  His handshake and his word were as good as gold.


Those left to cherish his memory are his son James Cryer, Jr. & Dena of Tyler, TX; daughters, Dawn Eccles & Steve of Lake Charles, LA and Cherie Garza & David also of Lake Charles, LA; brother, Harold Wayne Cryer & Doris of South Carolina; sister, Melba Faye Wells & Jerry Don of Rosepine, LA; grandchildren, Brandon Poindexter, Stephen Eccles, Michael Eccles, Kristen Eccles, Alanna Garza; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Bertie Cryer and his brother, Ronald Cryer.


Visitation will be held Monday, October 2, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home from 9:00-11:00 am with the funeral service starting at 11:00 am.  Officiating the service will be Brother James Byrd. Burial will follow at Rosepine Cemetery in Rosepine, LA.
