James "Jimmy" Downs

DeRidder, Louisiana

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Jimmy" Willis Downs, a beloved father, husband, and friend, who left this world on February 5, 2025, in DeRidder, Louisiana. Born on November 5, 1937, in Oberlin, LA, James lived a life filled with love, faith, and simplicity.

Jimmy dedicated many years of his life serving as a Measurement Technician in the gas industry, spending most of his career at Trunkline Gas Company in Longville, LA. After retiring, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, always embracing the joy in everyday moments.

Jimmy was a devout Christian whose faith was evident in everything he did. He had a special love for his church community and cherished the time spent with family as they created countless memories that will forever be held close to their hearts.

After his retirement, Jimmy and his beloved wife traveled in their RV, creating beautiful memories that he carried with him throughout his life, even after her passing. His warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, James David Downs and Melody; daughter, Jennifer Lyn Rodrigue and Clay; sister, Sue Downs; granddaughter, Cayley Christine Growcock and Zach; grandson, Jayden James Downs; great granddaughter, Early James Growcock and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Ann Downs; parents, Prentice and Elma Downs; brothers, Sonny Downs and Mickey Downs; sisters, Betty Baird, Barbara Perry, Carol Montgomery, Penny Falke.

A funeral service to celebrate Jimmy's life will be held at Bilbo and Roberts Church of Christ in DeRidder, LA on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM. A public viewing will take place earlier that day, starting at 11:00 AM. Jay Alexander will officiate the service. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are James Patterson, Lance Watson, David Watson, Larry Cooley, Chuck Montgomery and Zach Growcock. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

As we gather to honor James, let us remember the love and laughter he brought into our lives. His memory will live on in the stories we share and the love we continue to give to one another.
