James "Buddy" Whitaker

James “Buddy” W. Whitaker, 82 years old, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 9, 2022. He was born February 12, 1940 to WM “Bill” Whitaker and Helen Gill Whitaker in DeRidder, LA. He served his country in the Army National Guard. He loved fishing and spending time with his family. He loved worshiping the Lord and was faithful to his church, Spring Creek Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Bridget Roy and son-in-law, Percy Roy, Jr. of Kaplan, LA; daughters-in-law, Naomi Whitaker of DeRidder, LA and Jennifer Whitaker of Soapstone, LA; companion, Virginia Gen Perkins of DeRidder, LA; three grandsons, six granddaughters, twenty-six great grandchildren, sixteen great-great grandchildren; brother, William Wilton Whitaker and Marie of Palestine, TX; sisters, Barbara Long and Verby of DeRidder, LA, Marjorie Frederick and Langston of Orange, TX, Wendel Harris of  McKinny, TX, Mildred Creed of Deer Park, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Betty Jean Perkins Whitaker; second wife, Otha Bernita Moore Whitaker; daughter, Agnes Annell Whitaker McDaniel, sons, Dennis James Whitaker, James “Bo” Whitaker, Jr.; grandsons, Anthony and Michael Maddox; granddaughter, Dallas Denise Edwards Dearmon; great grandson, Steven Gill; parents, WM “Bill” and Helen Gill Whitaker; sisters, Margret Whitaker, Brenda Whitaker Neely.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Stephen Farquhar, Dr. Chuen Kwok and Dr. Brett Goodwin, also Amedisys Hospice for your loving care, especially Lisa. They would also like to express their love and appreciation to Curtis and Connie Everette for everything you have done.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 12:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM at Spring Creek Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Brother Dalton Isbell will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Burial will follow at Spring Creek Cemetery in DeRidder, LA.
