Jackie W. Buxton, 72, of Anacoco, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
Jackie grew up in Merryville, LA, attending Merryville Elementary and High School where he was a member of the marching band. Jackie served his country with distinction. During 1971-1973, he was part of the Army's 1st Armored Tank Division, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSG). Following his active duty, he joined the Louisiana National Guard, serving from 1973 to 1977. His bravery and dedication were evident when he saved his lieutenant's life during a heat stroke incident. Throughout his military career, Jackie earned numerous certificates and medals, highlighting his commitment and valor.
After his military service, Jackie entered the logging industry in 1977, working for his father-in-law, Wesley Harralson. His career in the woods spanned over 25 years, during which he formed many lasting friendships. Following his retirement from logging, Jackie worked for DS2 at Fort Polk, LA. His work ethic and jovial nature left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Jackie's personal life was filled with love and laughter. He met his future wife, Brenda Harralson, at a revival in Merryville, LA, during her junior year of high school. Their love story began with letters exchanged during his Vietnam service and continued through decades of marriage, during which they welcomed a daughter and a son. Jackie's family grew to include six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply.
Although no specific hobbies are listed, Jackie's love for playing the drums indicates his appreciation for music and rhythm, a passion that likely brought joy to many gatherings.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty years, Brenda Buxton of Anacoco, LA; son, Alex Buxton and Sarah of DeRidder, LA; daughter, Tanya Howard and Aaron of Fayetteville, AR; sisters, Freddie Abshire of Nederland, TX, Dot Walley and Paul of Rosepine, LA; grandchildren, Whitney Dease and Donald, Jackie Park, Austin Park, Wes Buxton, Thomas Lester, Maddie Lester; great grandchildren, Ryli Guzman, Kyle Park, Gunner Dease, Analynn Dease, Jonathan Park, Killian Park, Devin Park and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex C. and Sybil Buxton; great granddaughter, Aleyah Park and his grandparents.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Brother Joey Miller, Brother Dale Varnado, Brother Terry McDonald will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Aaron Howard, Jackie Park, Ronnie Walley, Donnie Walley, Terry McDonald, Troy Blanchard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Austin Park, Alton White, Kenneth Biscamp, Hank “Big Daddy” Larkin, Paul Walley, Charles Abshire, Kimuel Haygood, Hardy Myers, Phillip Myers, Eddie Ray Havens, Elton Ray Havens, Jimmie Shell, Keith Shell, Donnie Paul Lewing, Willie McDonald. Burial will follow at Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville, LA.

Jackie Buxton will be remembered as a kind-hearted, honorable man with an infectious smile, whose legacy of service, family devotion, and friendship will endure.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Intensive Specialty Hospital, Dr. Cody Tingle and Gentiva Hospice for taking such good care of Dad during this time. You all made him feel so loved and made him laugh during his health struggles he was going through.
