Helen Hickman

April 4, 1925 - April 1, 2014

Helen Hickman, 88, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.   Helen was born April 4, 1925 to Walter Eaves and Sarah (Neely) Eaves in Merryville, LA.  She attended Merryville School and graduated from there.  Helen worked for Atlantic Richfield for a number of years.  She also worked at Fort Polk.  Then, she retired from Boise Cascade after a long working career.  Helen belonged to the Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church.  She joined the church at an early age.  Helen was a woman of great faith, who loved God, family, and friends.

Auntie had no children of her own, but many surviving nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are nieces and caregivers, Carolyn Davis and Shirley Martin, both of DeRidder, LA; sister-in-law, Isabelle Eaves of Merryville, LA.  She is preceded in death by her husband, D.W. “Dude” Hickman and her parents, Walter Eaves and Sarah Eaves; brothers and sisters, Inez Eaves Turner (Calvin), Selma Eaves Craft (Giles), Jim Eaves (Minnie), Louis Eaves (Hilda), W.L. “Buddy” Eaves (Frances) and Huey E. Eaves.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Funeral services are Friday, April 4, 2014 at 3:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Cannon Cemetery in Merryville, LA.  Elder Truman Keel will officiate.
