She was a long time resident of Mobile, Alabama. A member of Hollinger’s Island Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the fellowship and friendships of the Crafty Critters and her Sunday School Class. Her first job after graduation from Brookhaven High School, Brookhaven Mississippi was folding and preparing parachutes for the World War II war effort at Brookley Field in Mobile, Alabama. Later she worked as a secretary for the Department of Defense, where she was able to excel at typing and dictation. Her employment also included work at Neisure’s Department store in the shoe department, Woolworth Department store, and after years of hard work in the Mobile summer heat she retired from Flowerwood Nursery. Her love of reading was passed down to her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was baptized at a young age and was a devout Christian her whole life. She overcame more obstacles and challenges in her life than most people ever experience. In spite of it all, she always saw the good in others and had a smile and encouraging words for all. Her strength came from her love and faith in Jesus. Her devotion and love for her brother, daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren and relatives will be missed. Although Alzheimer’s robbed her of many of her memories in later life, she would speak happily of earlier times and was known to sing songs from her youth. She was always appreciative of the good in life and was known for expressing her love for others, no matter how much or little she knew of someone. Hazel was a dedicated Christian, a lovely lady, a loving soul, a gentle spirit, a family woman, a fighter when times called for it, a survivor when others would be incapable, a teacher of appreciation and love. She had few possessions and little money in her lifetime, however her worldly limitations never prevented her from generously giving the world invaluable gifts of love, kindness, appreciation, goodwill, joy, laughter, encouragement, trust, faith, and happiness. The father has called his child home and she will truly be missed here on earth.
