Harvey Johnson

d. April 26, 2008

On April 26, 2008 Bro. Harvey Johnson, 86, achieved his greatest victory.  He died in Christ.  He was born on September 21, 1921 to the union of Lewellyn and Lizzie Johnson in Kirbyville, Texas.  He was raised and educated in Weirgate, Texas.  Following his graduation from high school the family moved to DeRidder, Louisianan where he was employed by Crosby Chemical Plant until he was drafted into the United States Army during World War II.  He served in England, France and the Philippines.  He retired from Civil Service at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

He was baptized into the body of Christ in 1961 where he remained a good servant in the kingdom until his health failed.  So the man who was affectionately known as, "Big Shot" has more than earned his promotion of glory.  Now he has taken his sabbatical, now he has entered into the rest promised by the Hebrew writer.  He was a unique personality that we shall miss, yet his influence in the Lord's Church will live on.

Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, one sister, his wife Eula Mae Johnson and one daughter, Regina Johnson - Clarida.  he leaves to mourn his passing three children, Virgil Gail Johnson - Riley (Melvin) of Bowie, Maryland; Lynette  Johnson of Wilmington, Delaware; Eddie Paul Johnson of Houston, Texas; two adopted children, Vivian Puckett and Keith Bryant of DeRidder; a loving niece, Wanda Faye Johnson of DeRidder; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Beauregard Church of Christ in DeRidder.  Brother Jasper Newsome will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, May 2, 2008 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.  Burial will follow at Community Cemetery in DeRidder.
