OPELIKA, AL – Harry F. Bryan, 78, died in the care of The Bethany House, surrounded by his family, on May 17, 2023. He was born on September 7, 1944 in Shreveport, LA, the middle son of Robert Russell Bryan and Blanche Marie (Cammack) Bryan. His brothers were/are, William Russell (Billy) Bryan and Boyd Allen Bryan.


Hank graduated from DeRidder High School, Class of 1963. Following his graduation, he served six years in the United States Military – Army National Guard, stationed at Fort Polk (LA) and Fort Lenard Wood (MO), from which he was honorably discharged in 1971. In 1974, Hank began a rewarding, 35-year, career in the paper industry, which culminated with a 20-year tenure at Alabama River Newsprint in Monroeville, AL. He retired from ARN in 2009. His love for airplanes and pilot comradery was only rivalled by his love for hunting, fishing, and enjoying the Cowboy Camp with his sons and grandchildren.


In addition to his parents, Robert and Blanche, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Russell (Billy). He’s survived by his brother, Boyd Allen, of DeRidder, LA; his oldest son, Harry Paul, and wife, Celeste, of Lake Charles, LA; his middle son, Karl Franklin, and wife, Alison, of Opelika, AL; his youngest son, Russell William, and wife, Claudia, of Newnan, GA; by his grandchildren Andrew (28) and wife Victoria, Gabrielle (27) and husband Timothy, Haley (27), Kimberly (25) and husband Jensi, Chasidy (22), Will (13) and Russ (13); and by his great-grandchildren Stella (1 ½ years) and Parker (4 months).


A visitation will be held at Myers Colonial Funeral Home – 3178 Hwy 190 W, DeRidder, LA, on Friday. May 26, 2023 at 9:00 am, followed by a procession to Cooper Cemetery – Hwy 190 towards Merryville, LA., for a service of remembrance officiated by Jerry Day of DeRidder.
