George Gilbert Martin

George Gilbert Martin, 87, of Cumming, GA, formally of New Orleans, LA, passed from this life on Thurs, August, 31, 2023.

George was the first born of six children, to blind parents, on Nov 15, 1935. His father left home when he was just a teenager, and he stepped up to the role of helping his family. His compassionate nature led him to help uplift others in need, throughout his life. He attended Florida State University on a gymnastics scholarship and was a member of their Flying High Circus and Cheerleading Squad. He was taught acting by Leonard Nimoy (Spock in Star Trek) and Jeff Corey (Sherrif in Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid) and loved entertaining people of all ages with music and magic. He was highly accomplished playing the harmonica, winning competitions, and joining church worship teams in multiple states. George’s incredible sense of humanity was captured in his touching, skillfully written poetry. He helped enrich countless lives through education over several decades through his own company, Martin Educational Enterprises, Inc. His goal every day was to make someone smile; a goal he easily surpassed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his partner, Juanita Mouledous of Mandeville, LA; daughter Nancy Anna Martin Piros and husband of Birmingham, AL and daughter Donna Heather Martin Bowman and husband of Cumming, GA; brother, Kenneth Martinez and wife of Meraux, LA;

six grandchildren Kimberly Marie Piros, Joseph Richard Piros, Nicholas Stephen Piros, Heather Marie Hawthorne, Christy Leigh Gladen, and Nicholas Randall Geary; six great grandchildren, Vivienne Elise Reeves, James Hunter Hawthorne, Joshua Carter Hawthorne, Bella Grace Gladen, Savannah Hope Geary, Logan Randall Geary; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert George Martinez and Goldie Mae Bailey Martinez; siblings Billy Martinez, Gloria Barletter, Goldie Mae Taviano, Gordon Martinez; his first wife/mother of his two children, Nancy Anna Singleton Martin.

Visitation will be held on Weds, Sept 6, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church 3261 Hwy 171, DeRidder, LA. His Celebration of Life service will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, Sept 7, 2023 also at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Pastor Danny Wilson will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

George’s favorite place on earth was being immersed in the incredible forests of Yosemite National Park. In lieu of sending cut flowers, please consider planting a tree or flowers in his honor.
