On Sunday, August 2, 2020, Geneva Butler, wife mother, daughter, sister, and auntie passed away at the age of 70 years.
Geneva will be forever remembered by her husband Charles, and her daughters: Tammie Moore (Richard) of Edgewood, MD, Chiquita Davila (Eric) Houston, TX; and Paula Blanche (Ben) Lake Charles, LA; by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; by her sister, Jackie Freeman (Jerry), and her brothers: Ellis (Ann), Willie (Jennell), Larry (Dorothy) and Timmie (Loreen) Banks. She was proceeded in death by her sisters; Gertie and Shirley Banks. Geneva will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Geneva was born on December 31, 1949 to the late Willie Lee Banks and Myrtis Banks. At an early age she gave her life to Christ. She was a dedicated member of Sweet Home Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Elbert Cooksey and Pastor Richard Moore, where she served as a faithful member of the Choir. She later moved her membership to Morning Star Church under the leadership of Pastor Jackie McClain. There she served as a faithful choir member and also the president of the Missionary Department. As a devout Christian, and all-around loving person, her doors were always open to those in need of help or just a shoulder to cry on. Geneva was also fighter and a leader. She proudly served as the president of the NAACP in DeRidder, for over 15 years. In the dedicated service to this organization, she fought for her community. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Geneva worked for the Beauregard Nursing, Professional Home Health and Care, and she was the Home Manager for ResCare.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. A private funeral service will be held. Pastor Jackie McClain will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Richard Moore, Jr., Trent Banks, Jayce Rosendoll, Jadavian Banks, Tyrone Banks, Christopher Banks, Kobe Banks, and Nick Williams. Burial will follow at Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery in Robeline, LA.
