Freddie Jean Luther passed away June 8, 2014 at Christus St. Patrick’s Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  She was born July 27, 1932 to William and Thelma Hadley in Port Neches, Texas.  In high school at Port Neches, she was active with band and was the drum majorette.  She married her husband, James, following graduation from high school.  They made their home in Nederland, Texas where they lived and reared their four children, Susan, Robert, David, and Glenna.  When her youngest entered first grade, Freddie started college at Lamar University along with her oldest daughter where she obtained her degree in Elementary Education.  She taught Special Education at Port Neches for 13 years.  When James retired they moved to Toledo Bend where she became a Special Education teacher in Many, Louisiana for eight more years.  They moved to DeRidder, Louisiana in 1998 where they were members of First United Methodist Church and the National Camping Methodists.


Freddie was married to her beloved husband, James, for 62 years until his death in 2009. Freddie is survived by sons, Robert and wife Debra, David and wife Jodies; her daughters, Susan Luther Johnson and Glenna Luther; seven granddaughters and nineteen great grandchildren.  She was loved by many including friends, neighbors, relatives, and her church family.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 11, 10:00 A.M., at First United Methodist Church in DeRidder with Rev. Wayne Evans officiating.  Burial will follow at 2:30 at Couley Double Church Cemetery near Winnfield.


Visitation is Tuesday, June 10, 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home, LMCH.org
