Francis "Fuzz" Powell

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Francis S. “Fuzz” Powell, 81, of Knight, Louisiana. He departed on January 1, 2025, at Knight, Louisiana. Fuzz proudly served this nation in the U.S. Navy before returning to his home in Merryville, LA. He spent the next forty-three incredible years working as a dedicated Maintenance Mechanic for Boise Cascade. 

“Fuzz” was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Carol. His greatest joys came from making her happy by working tirelessly to provide her with everything she wanted. Their partnership was a beautiful testament to love. Everyone who knew them could see the special bond they shared

“Fuzz” had a special knack for creating warm memories with family and friends. He loved to spend time with his brother-in-law, John, and sister-in-law, Pat, drinking two cups of coffee on their front porch. He cherished moments when he could spend time in nature, whether hunting, fishing, or just working in the yard, raking leaves, and enjoying the outdoors. His little fur baby, Rosie, was always by his side. She loved the moments she could cuddle up with him in his recliner, guarding her beloved dad with her tiny body and loud bark.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Carol Powell of Merryville, LA; son, Shawn Powell and Valene of KY; brothers, Jerry "J.C." Powell and Katie of Toledo Bend, LA, Ben Powell and Karen of Bay Mitten, AL; sisters, Wannelle Jaeger of Leesville, LA, Mary "Roxie" Briggs of Leesville, LA, Bridget Huie of Leesville, LA; grandson, Dakota Powell of Knight, LA; fur baby, Rosie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

“Fuzz” was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Mary Powell; brothers, Thomas Powell and James “Rex” Powell; and sister, Mary Ann Powell.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will continue Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Moore will officiate the service. Rusty Harvey, Joey Harvey, Matthew Harvey, Jerry “J.C.” Powell, Arrie Stark, and Shawn Powell will be pallbearers. John C. Harvey, Robert Nash, and Sam White will be honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow at Hinson Cemetery in Knight Community, LA.

Fuzz will be missed deeply by all who knew him. However, his legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will live on in the hearts of family and friends.
