Frances Peacock-Coker was born in Deridder, Louisiana to Lonnie and Willie Mae Peacock on November 30, 1929. In her early years she attended Beauregard Parish First Street School. She met and married the late John Lee Coker. From this happy union nine children were born, John Edward Coker, the late Terry Lynn Coker, the late Freddie Wayne Coker, Vaughn Walter Coker, Ronnie Coker, Carl Ray Coker, Debora Mira Coker-Garrick, Denise Renee Coker-Jones, and Darrell Wayne Coker. She also gained a bonus daughter, Ruby Jean Peters. She wore many hats throughout her life. She was a domestic worker for several families in the Deridder area, a custodian at Pinewood Elementary School, and an employee of Standard Department store, but first and foremost she was a beautician and was also a snazzy dresser who loved to wear colorful clothing. (Everything had to match!)
She was an active member of Mount Zion Baptist church where she was a member of the women’s usher board, under the pastorship of the late J.W. Gibbs and the late Pastor George Harris. She moved to Queen City, Texas, where she continued to be active in the church and in her new community, until her health began to decline. As a result, she relocated back home to Deridder, Louisiana where she resided at Deridder Retirement and Rehabilitation Center until her death.
