Frances Jeffers Hobbs

April 14, 1937 — January 8, 2025

Merryville, LA

Frances Jeffers Hobbs, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted wife, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on April 14, 1937, in Hamburg, Arkansas, Frances brought joy and warmth to all who knew her.

She married her high school sweetheart, Billy Lynn, in August of 1955, and together they shared a life full of love and adventure. The family moved frequently during their early years, calling California, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas home, before finally settling in Merryville, Louisiana.

Frances wore many hats - from working at Merryville Hospital and serving as a teacher's aide for Merryville High School, to being a substitute mail carrier and working at 2 Sisters Pecan House. Yet, her most cherished role was that of a homemaker. She took great pride in nurturing her family and creating a loving home.

A talented pianist, Frances played for her church from the time she was just 11 years old, primarily at the First Baptist Church in Merryville, where she shared her musical gifts until late 2024. Her dedication to her faith was evident in all aspects of her life, and she proudly served the Lord for 76 years as a faithful Christian.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, James David Hobbs of DeRidder, LA, John Michael Hobbs and Connie of Merryville, LA; daughter, Rebecca Lynne Franks and Hershell of Merryville, LA; sisters, Clara Carter of Crossett, AR, Mattie Nicholson and Milas of Hiawassee, GA, Betty Jean Wells and Charles of Hamburg, AR; grandchildren, JoAnne Smith and Shannon, Jennifer Cooley and Brandon, Jamie Hobbs, David Hobbs and Jessica, John Michael Hobbs,II and Angel; fourteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Billy Lynn Hobbs; son, Mark Allen Hobbs; parents, Ernest and Rosie Lee Jeffers; brother, Robert Jeffers.

Funeral services to celebrate Frances's life will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA, and the family invites all to join them in honoring her legacy of love and faith. A viewing will commence at 12:00 PM until the time of service. Brother Lyndon Longoria will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Bivens Cemetery in Merryville, LA. We encourage everyone whose lives were touched by Frances to come and share their memories and pay their respects.
