Eunice Young Highsmith

Eunice Young Highsmith, born on June 5, 1932, in Louisiana, passed away on February 26, 2025, in Plano, TX. She was a beloved mother, a talented artist, and a dedicated nurse's aide who spent many years in DeRidder, LA. 

Eunice was the third oldest in a family of thirteen children and embraced family life with open arms. Those close to her will remember the warmth of family dinners, her love of flower arranging, and her imaginative spirit when it came to art. Eunice was especially fond of creating oil paintings, often selling her work and sharing the beauty she saw in the world with others.

Alongside her artistic pursuits, she worked at the PX on Fort Polk and later as a nurses aide at Beauregard Memorial Hospital, caring for others with compassion and kindness. She enjoyed vacationing in the mountains, finding peace and joy in nature. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Brenda Allbritton and Myron of Plano, TX; sons, Auta Bruce Highsmith, Jr. of Cleburne, TX, Roderick Highsmith and JoAnn of Bangkok, Thailand; step sons, D A Highsmith and Marilyn of Virginia Beach, VA, Bill Landis of Lake Charles, LA; sisters, Virginia McBroom of Sulphur, LA, Tollie Gillard of Westlake, LA, Lorine Moses of DeRidder, LA, Jerlene Dowers of Sulphur, LA, Loretta Starkey of Deer Park, TX, Dianne Duggan of DeRidder, LA; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Highsmith; brothers, Daniel Young, Alphus Young, Ezra Young, Wayne Young; sister, Lois Young; parents, James and Nettie Young.

The family will hold a funeral service at Myers Colonial Funeral Home on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM. A public viewing will be available earlier that day from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Whitaker Cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Eunice Highsmith will be missed dearly, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
