Ethel Mae Madison-Jackson was the youngest of four children, born to the union of Luis and Victoria Wilson-Madison, on Thursday, March 14, 1935 in Evergreen, Louisiana.  Ethel answered God’s call and departed earthly labor for a heavenly reward on Saturday August 14, 2021 at Christus Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana.


She grew up in the town of Cottonport, Louisiana and was educated in the public school system of Avoyelles Parish.  Ethel was baptized at an early age at the Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Williams in Cottonport. Her family moved to DeRidder, Louisiana. She was joined in holy matrimony to Lawrence Jackson, May 8, 1954, to this union twelve children were born. She became a working member of the Mt. Zion Missionary B.C., under the leadership of the late Pastor J.W. Gibbs, then the late Pastor George W. Harris and the present leadership Pastor Ronald Jarden. Ethel was faithful to her church, serving God and His people in several capacities; she sang in the choir, she was an usher, she shared in a prayer group with Sis. Anabelle Broussard and Sis. Christine Mayes, she also enjoyed being a part of the Kitchen Crew. She was employed by the Beauregard Parish School Board for twenty-seven years as a food service technician at K.R. Hanchey Elementary. She rendered volunteer services as a Pink Lady at the Beauregard Memorial hospital for eleven years.


Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, four children, John, Deborah, Lawrence, Jr., and Ronnie: her grandson Oscar, parents, and three siblings, Lucile Johnson, Tannie McClendon and Thomas Madison.


She leaves her fondest memories in the hearts of her children, Marie Irizarry of Landover, Maryland, Joseph (Carolyn) Jackson of DeRidder, LA, Patricia (Paul) Bettis of Lake Charles, LA, Brenda (Curtis) Hall of Hinesville, GA, Alfred C. Jackson of Washington D.C., Victoria (Timothy) Dees of Mobile, AL, Derwin (Donna) Jackson of Tupelo, MS and Felicia (Estrada) Sumpter of Tampa, Florida; sister-in-law, Rebecca Jackson, Ruth Jackson, Cynthia Jackson, Jean Alice Jackson and Amy Rose Jackson; brothers-in-law, Garland Jackson and Neal Jackson; eighteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; her special caregivers, Pam and Gordon Breaud; two very special people Esau Hamilton and Webster Woods.


Visitation will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. A private funeral service will be held. Pastor Ronald Jarden will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, LA.
