Essie Esther Welch Harper West

Essie Esther Welch Harper West, 91 of Rosepine, LA passed from this life on Sunday, December 1, 2013.  Mrs. West was born February 13, 1922 in Sugartown, LA, and lived in the Sugartown area until the 1970’s when she moved to New Llano.  She retired from Fort Polk in the 1980’s.  She enjoyed gardening, fishing at her Toledo Bend camp, and deer hunting in west Texas until a stroke made it impossible for her to do all that she loved.  She has spent her final years at the Rosepine Retirement and Rehabilitation Center, always in hopes of being able to return to the things that she loved once again.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Larry Harper of Sugartown, LA; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Obadiah West; sons, Sidney and Mickey Harper; and her parents, brothers and sisters.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.  Visitation is from 12:00pm until 2:00pm with funeral services beginning at 2:00pm.  Burial will follow at Sugartown Cemetery in Sugartown, LA.
