Ernest Ralston Roll

Ernest Ralsten Roll, 94, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Monday, October 5, 2020.

Ernie met the love of his life and after three years, he married Margaret Richter, together they raised five wonderful children. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man of great honor and integrity and would do anything for anyone. He loved his country and served proudly for 35 years. He was in the Coast Guard and Army for three years and then became a reserve until he was called back to active duty in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis and later served in Vietnam in 1968, and the Korean war in 1973. He retired in 1979 as a CW4 and was a CID during his enlistment. After moving seven times due to the Army, Ernest and Margaret settled in DeRidder in 1974,  and they came to love DeRidder and considered it home. He was a private investigator before opening his business La-Tex International, which he passed on to his son.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 67 years, Margaret “Margo” Richter Roll of DeRidder, LA; sons, Duane Roll and Marilyn of Oak Harbor, WA, Stephen Roll and Frances of Sulphur, LA, Patrick Dean Roll of DeRidder, LA; daughters, Lisa Marie Stickler of DeRidder, LA, Marguerite Anne Wood and Jeff of DeRidder, LA; sisters, Barbara Powell of Dowelltown, TN, Karen Elling and Robert of Duncanville, TX; grandchildren, Chelsea Theriot and Jacob, Brandy Ribeira and Alan, Megan Williams and Tim, Joshua Roll, Caitlyn Morris and Kelsey, Cory Avery and Jennifer, Maria Stickler, Zachary Wood and Marissa, Jakub Wood and Kayla, Joshua Wood and Brittany, Christina Harris and Jon; great grandchildren, Brandon, Lexi, Sophie, Mackenzie, Mason, Gracelynn, Emma, Hazel Jo, Evie, Cannon, Anna Marie, Amelia, Alayna, Colin, Raegan, Oliver, Kyleigh, Mila Mae; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Marguerite Roll; stepmother, Jacqueline Roll; brothers, Galen Roll, Saxton Roll, Earl Smith.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 8, 2020, also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Brother George Lee Glass will officiate the service.  Pallbearers will be Stephen Roll, Cory Avery, Zachary Wood, Jakub Wood, Joshua Wood, Jerry Chaney. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Fontenot. Burial will follow at Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville, LA.
