Elizabeth “Betty” Reeves Meadows passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 19, 2021. She was a resident in the Special Care Unit at Stonebridge Place Assisted Living in Sulphur, Louisiana.


Betty was born May 18, 1927 to Exie McConathy and Edward Reeves in Ragley, Louisiana. She attended Northwestern in Natchitoches before beginning her teaching career at Merryville High School. She also earned a Reading Specialist degree from McNeese. After retiring as a first-grade teacher from K.R. Hanchey Elementary, she continued teaching children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church DeRidder. She was a member of the Joy Singers Choir and was active in numerous clubs and professional organizations.


Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Hoke Stark Meadows; her siblings, Maxie Reeves, Sammy Reeves, Edward Reeves, Eddie Glen Kelley, and Evon Lambert.


She is survived by her children, Gwen Boudreaux of DeRidder, Marcia Hultquist (Ray) of Lake Charles, Jeff Meadows (Virginia) of Dickinson, Texas, Nancy McCready (Wyn) of Sealy, Texas and John Meadows of Pacific Palisades, California. Betty had four grandchildren, Noelle Bohannon of DeRidder, Lauren Byrd of DeQuincy, Joy and Hope McCready, both of Sealy, Texas. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, Shirley Reeves of Kountz, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.


The family would like to thank the following for the excellent care Mother received: sitters, Pauline Barker and Cheryl Johnson; Heart of Hospice, Stonebridge Place Assisted Living and Special Care Unit and Staff.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the Beauregard Cemetery Pavilion in DeRidder, Louisiana. Pastor Steve Graves will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Jeff Meadows, Wyn McCready, Ray Hultquist, Paul Byrd, Mitch Bohannon, Sam Bohannon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jase Byrd, George Robert Alston. Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church Children’s Ministry.
