It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Floyd Smith Jr., a beloved father, brother, and friend, who left us peacefully on February 22, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on February 15, 1949, in Port Arthur, Texas, Edward lived a full life that many would envy.
Edward was drafted into the National Guard, where he proudly served his country. After his military service, he dedicated 29 years of his career to Dupont as a process operator, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment. Edward also wore many hats throughout his life, including a brief stint as a car salesman, he was a schoolteacher and basically a jack-of-all-trades.
He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, which laid the foundation for a successful career and a life full of adventure. Edward was a man of simple pleasures, enjoying time in his recliner watching westerns, and he loved spending time outdoors. You could often find him bow hunting at Red Dirt, driving his beloved John Deere tractor, cutting grass, and baling hay.
Whether it was riding his Harley or venturing out on his 4-wheeler, Edward had a passion for life that resonated with everyone who knew him. He loved fishing the Sabine River and was a die-hard Tom Brady fan, cheering him on no matter what team he played for. Above all, Edward cherished his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Michael Smith and Lakin of Rosepine, LA; daughter, Ashley Smith of DeRidder, LA; special friend, Alma Stone of DeRidder, LA, mother of his children, Nancy Smith of Rosepine, LA; stepdaughter, Stacy Kennamore and Jackie of Burr Ferry, LA; brother, Hershel Smith and Catherine of Evans; grandchildren, Bryson Smith, Bayker Smith, Ryder Smith, Anna Kennamore, Allie Addison; great grandchildren, Darren and Walker and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends ensuring his love and values were passed down through generations.
Edward was preceded in death by his grandson, Rylan Smith; parents, Edward, Sr. and Dollie Smith; Aunt and Uncle, Ruby and Obe Simmons; his beloved horse, Cherokee.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Edward's life and legacy. A public viewing will be held at Galilee Baptist Church in Evans, LA on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Galilee Baptist Church. Afterward, Edward will be laid to rest at Evans Cemetery in Evans, LA. Brother Wade Carroll will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Bryson Smith, David Beason, David Hickman, Wesley Smith, Bayker Smith, Casey Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Slaydon Austin, Ryder Smith, Beau Austin, Tucker Austin, Skyler Beason.
