Graveside services for Edith “Eah” Slaydon Winfree, 95, of DeRidder, will be Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at Beauregard Cemetery.  Edith passed away Friday, December 14, 2018, in DeRidder, LA while surrounded by her family.  A graduate of Singer High School, she earned a degree in Education from Northwestern State College in 1945.  Edith taught her first year at Robeline School in Natchitoches Parish, where she had the First Grade.  From there she came to T.S. Cooley School in Lake Charles and then to Hamilton School. She attended Louisiana State University during one summer and University of Colorado during two summers earning her Master’s Degree.  She was a member of Alpha Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.


Edith married the love of her life, Bob Winfree, on February 4, 1954 and enjoyed 54 years with her beloved husband.  After she retired from teaching, Edith and Bob opened Bob Winfree Travel Agency in Lake Charles.  Years later, they opened a second agency in DeRidder.  They were world renowned travelers, visiting every country in the world at least one time.  They shared their knowledge of the world with everyone they came into contact with. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles and Temple Baptist Church of DeRidder.


Edith was preceded in death by her husband, W.R. “Shot” Winfree, her parents, Sam and Emma Slaydon, sisters, Bertha Owens and Bonnie Sargent, brother-in-law Don Sargent, and sister-in-law Joyce Slaydon.

She is survived by her brothers Samuel Ray Slaydon of San Antonio, Tx and Bobby G. and Deedie Slaydon of Hilltop Lakes, Tx, her sister, Frances “Anne” and George Jouban of DeRidder, and special grandchildren, Leah and Larry Boyd of DeRidder, Melissa and Tyler Cobb of Deridder, and Trisha and Josh Ayo of Bossier City, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends and staff at Rosepine Rehab Center.
