Edgar Wayne Spikes, Sr.

“For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which The Lord, The Righteous Judge, shall give at that day.” II Timothy 4:6-8

God Blessed Lester and Lorene Spikes on December 30, 1959 with their ninth amazing child, a son, Edgar Wayne Spikes, in DeRidder, Louisiana.

He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Friendship Baptist Church in Bancroft, Louisiana. On December 28, 1981, he married his beloved wife, Janice Powell-Spikes. They became best friends and constant companions. The Lord blessed them to rear one son to adulthood. Edgar was respectfully known as “Eck” throughout the community and with his family. He was a Merchant Seaman for many years; for the past five years he was employed at Merryville High School.

Edgar has safely moved to that New Home with his parents, Lester and Lorene; his in-laws, James, Sr. and Ella Mae Powell; his sisters, Bessie and Helen; his brother, James Ivy Spikes, Sr.

To carry on this magnificent legacy of love are his dedicated wife, Janice Spikes; devoted son, Edgar Wayne “Bam” (Renee) Spikes of Merryville, LA; three grandchildren, Sadé, Aisia and Lester, all of Merryville, LA; six brothers, Donald Ray (Delores) Spikes, Ellis Ray (Rendia) Spikes, MacArthur (Michele) Spikes, all of Deridder, LA, John Wayne (Christina) Spikes, of Moss Bluff, LA, Joe Lester and Reggie Lee Spikes of Bancroft, LA; one sister, Shirley (Jimmy) Childs of Bancroft, LA; four brothers-in-law, James (Janet) Powell of Shreveport, LA, Donald Powell and John (Bonnie) Powell of Merryville, LA and Michael Hills of California; one sister-in-law, Shawnee Powell of Leesville, LA; two special nieces, Seaira and Olivia Powell of Houston, TX; six uncles, five aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 3, 2023 at Norris Memorial Church of God in Christ in DeRidder, LA. Pastor Kieran Coleman and Pastor Murray C. Piper will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Donald Ray Spikes, Sr. John Wayne Spikes, Ellis Ray Spikes, Reggie Lee Spikes, Joe Lester Spikes, Jimmy Lee Childs, Edgar Wayne Spikes, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Powell, Jr., LeRoy Williams, Donald Ray Powell, Roosevelt Williams, John Edward Powell, Larry Ashworth, Michael Hills,  Alvin Ashworth, MacArthur Spikes, Glen Ashworth, Lester Lee Spikes. Burial will follow at Spikes Cemetery in Bancroft, LA.
