Eddie B Ransom, 89, transitioned from this life peacefully on January 29, 2024, in her home. Eddie B was born on April 5, 1935, to Ed and Ada (Scott) Stewart in Scott Settlement in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. To the union of her parents, she was the 11th child of twelve children. At an early age she moved to DeRidder, La., where she attended the Beauregard Parish Training School during her elementary and high school years. Eddie B met the love of her life, Calava Ransom. They courted and then married in 1953. She was affectionately known to him as “B” or “Chicken”. They were married for 72 years.
She was raised in Sweet Home Baptist church since the age of seven and was baptized under the leadership of the late Reverend D. J. Jones. Eddie B loved her church and was an active member until she became ill and was unable to attend. She attended yearly the Baptist Association and the Baptist State Convention. As a member of Sweet Home, she served as the Youth Director for many years, a member of the Deaconess Board, and the president of the Pastor’s Aid. Serving her church was one of the highlights of her life.
She was employed by William Progress Insurance for many years and received many awards and accolades for her work. She was one of the top insurance salespeople in the company. She later became employed by the Beauregard Parish School System. She worked under the late principal, L V Blount, and then principal Ellis Spikes until her retirement after 29 years of service. Another highlight for her was her participation in the DeRidder branch of the Grambling State University Alumni. She wore her black and gold proudly. She lived life to the fullest and loved shopping and fine dining.
Eddie B was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Ada Stewart, brothers and sister in laws: Arthur Stewart, Sr. and Curlie Stewart, Paul Stewart, Wilborn Stewart, Sr. and Juanita Marie Stewart, Wyman Stewart and Esther Stewart, Wiley W. R. Stewart, Sr. and Dr. Etta Stewart, and ‘D P’ Don Phillip Stewart and sisters and brother in laws: Ida Mae Sparks Anding and Arthur Walter Sparks and Dan Anding, Dovie S. Ambeau, Alma Rodgers and Jimmy Rodgers, Mandie Mae Crawford and Leroy Crawford, and Bennie D. Stewart Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Calava Ransom, Linda Vincent, oldest niece, who grew up in the home with her like a sister, Michael Davis who was like a son, and a host of nephews, nieces, family members and friends. Her life will be remembered by all.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Sweet Home Baptist Church, 501 Carlisle St. DeRidder, LA. The viewing will be from 10:00 to 11:45 AM at the church. Reverend Kurt Bouie, Sr. will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Old Cypress Cemetery in Rosepine, LA.
