Donna Marie Fitch-Thurston

Donna Marie Fitch - Thurston 70, of Jersey City was called to her eternal rest suddenly on Tuesday July 21, 2020 in Waldorf, Maryland. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 1, 1949.

Donna resided in Deridder, Louisiana where she began her educational career until she moved to Jersey City and received her BA and MA degrees at Jersey City State College. Blessed with an innate ability to bring out the best in young people. Donna became one of the most beloved teachers and leaders in the Jersey City Public School System.

Donna distinguished herself as a highly qualified teacher for more than 25 years. She successfully used her principal degree to assume the role of acting principal when necessary at both Public Schools #12 & #20. As a dedicated educator and consummate professional, she always went above and beyond her service to her children, students, and community.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Arthur Brayboy of Jersey City, NJ, Micheal Thurston, Jr. and fiancé, Angela Hamilton of Suitland, MD; daughter, Sonja Djossou and Deo of Waldorf, MD; brothers, Richard Moore and Datron of DeRidder, LA, Jimmy Harris, Jr. and Barbara of Leesville, LA, Richard Harris and Rene of Wylie, TX, Darren Harris and Liz of DeRidder, LA, Sam Harris of DeRidder, LA, Michael Harris and Elizabeth if DeRidder, LA, Roosevelt Moore of Nathcitoches, LA; sisters, Johnnie Faye Johnson of DeRidder, LA, Martha St. Romain and Karl of DeRidder, LA, Billie High and Joe of DeRidder, LA, Kassandra Washington and Lavon of DeRidder, LA, Betty White of Dallas, TX ; grandchildren, Keyons Djossou, Bryce Djossou, Michaela Thurston, Peyton Brayboy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, A. Fitch; brother, Charles Harris; sister, Julia Crockett.

Donna inspired generations of students, colleagues, friends and members of the Jersey City educational community with her compassion and love. Bless you dear mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, in-law, aunt, cousin, colleague, and friend. She will be sorely missed. Pray for her and the family as they take her home to eternal rest.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 10:00 AM TO 11:00 AM at  Beauregard Parish Expo Hall in DeRidder, LA. Reverend Michael Harris will officiate the private funeral service. Pallbearers will be friends and family. Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, LA.
