Delorise Armstrong Jones

d. February 3, 2018

Delorise Armstrong- Jones 88, transitioned to her heavenly home on February 3, 2018 at Tuscany Skilled Nursing Facility/ Rehabilitation Facility in Pearland, Texas, after a lengthy and courageous battle with a long illness.   Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in this struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Delorise was born to the late Emmit and Mahalia Armstrong, in DeRidder. LA on November 25, 1929.  She was the seventh of eighth siblings.  Seven preceded her in death:  Frankie Shelby, Arcell B. Armstrong, Ulysses Carlton Armstrong, Tanner Renfro, Curlie Stewart, Jimmie McGlothen and Emmit Armstrong Jr.

Delorise married her high school sweetheart, John H. Jones on June 6, 1947.  To this union four children were born.  Trennis, Carlos, Kathy and John.

At an early age, she professed her life to her Lord and Savior at Sweet Home Baptist in DeRidder, LA.  Under the leadership of several pastors, she was the church secretary for 28 years and served as Mission President for 18 years.  She was named Emeritus President of the Senior mission after her health began to decline.

When her life began to decline, she wanted to remain independent and moved to Oyster Creek Assisted Living Facility in Missouri City, Texas in 2016.  She continued to attend bible study and church services with her son Carlos and family.

Delorise worked as a School food Service Technician at DeRidder Junior High for 20 years until she retired.  She took pride in her cooking and enjoyed her co-workers as well as the students and faculty.  She was very active in the community.  She was always trying to motivate others on her street to help keep Bishop Street nice and neat.  Her yard was always filled with beautiful flowers.  She volunteered at Nursing homes, God’s food box and was a long-time den mother for many of the young men in her community.   Most importantly, she loved her children and grandchildren dearly.  Her passion and joy was traveling and dressing up.  The most important thing other than her children was her “lipstick”.  She always told her family “if she got sick, wash her feet and put on her lipstick”.  Everything else could wait.  She was a joy to her family and friend and will be missed tremendously by all.  As she lay in bed fighting her battle, she found words to encourage her children, grandchildren and nieces.

Delorise leaves to cherish her memories: One daughter, Kathy (Jacob) Bruner, DeRidder, LA, Three sons, Trennis (Grova) Jones, Austin, Texas, Carlos (Stephanie) Jones, Pearland, Texas, John (Kelli) Jones, Baton Rouge, LA.  Eleven grandchildren:  Tamara Jones, Houston, Texas, Byron (Keyna) Nash, Lake Charles, LA,  Shadrick (Bridget) Nash, DeRidder, LA, Corey (Karitta) Nash, Lake Charles, a very special and loving grandson, Trea` Trapp, Houston, Texas, Carla (Chris) Adams, Houston, Texas, Carlos (Sparkle) Jones, Rosharon, Texas, Jourdan (Lexi) Jones, Brooklyn, NY, Trennis ( Amy) Jones, Austin, TX, John Vincent Jones, Reno, Nevada, Jillian Jones, Baton Rouge, LA, Sister in laws:  Delores Black Armstrong, Houston, Texas and Claudette Armstrong, Los Angeles, CA,   A very special and loving niece, Evetta Armstrong, Houston, Texas,  Special friend of 60 years,  Thelma Bryant Jennings, DeRidder, LA and a great friend Lou T.
