It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Earl Whiddon, the world's greatest grandpa, on March 19, 2025. Born on November 7, 1933, in Merryville, LA, David lived a full and vibrant life dedicated to his family and passions. He was a loving husband to his cherished wife, Niona Whiddon, and a devoted family man who filled the lives of everyone around him with joy and laughter.
David was proud of his education, earning a bachelor's degree and later forging a successful career as a forester. He served his country honorably in the Navy, and after his service, he remained committed to his work and community in the forestry industry.
He was known for his trademark high-pitched voice that would rise in excitement, particularly when discussing his beloved sports, especially LSU. As an armchair coach, he could be found cheering enthusiastically for his teams during every game. Outside of sports, David had a passion for deer hunting across the United States and Canada, and he enjoyed fishing and cultivating a productive garden.
David's warmth, humor, and love for his family will be missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of thirty-five years, Niona Boswell Whiddon of Merryville, LA; children, Michelle Hull of DeRidder, LA, Amanda Moore of Hathaway, LA, Emily Moon of Merryville, LA, Will Moon and April of Avinger, TX; sister, Shirley Allen of Sugarland, TX; grandchildren, Ellen Hull, Warren Moore, John Moore, Amelia Moore and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
