David Glen Williamson

David Glen Williamson was born on February 27, 1952 to Melvin and Dorothy Williamson. He spent most of his childhood raised in Merryville, Louisiana where he hunted, fished, played cowboys and Indians and watched the trains go by. He met the love of his life, Nelda Faye Corbett in the halls of Merryville High School. For many years, Nell was his one and only – and then those two girls came along, Angela and Amanda. In David’s eyes they could do no wrong – and they knew it. If you ask them, they’ll tell you, he was still wrapped around their little fingers. They will always be daddy’s little girls. Then lo and behold the grandkids came along – Alex, Rayne, and Stormy and they were the light of his life. David was so proud of each one of them and bragged on them to whoever would listen. Let’s not forget about his trusty side kick – JoJo the Boxer. JoJo has brought David and Nell much love and laughter and you can be certain David and JoJo caused much mischief.

There’s not too many people that can say they beat cancer 8 times over 15 years, but David did. Cancer never beat him. He said it was worth every damn time to be here for Nell, Amanda and Angela and to watch those grandkids grow.

David worked for many years at Louisiana Pacific in Bon Wier, Texas. But many probably know him better as the owner of Country Boy’s. He was a taxidermist for many years and then the owner of Country Boy’s hardware store in Merryville. When asked why he named it Country Boy’s he said two reasons – one after the Hank Williams Junior song, a Country Boy Can Survive, and two, a feller he worked with said “Look what an old Country Boy can do” when talking about his taxidermy work. David loved visiting with friends when they would stop by the store. Many became lifelong friends that he truly cherished.

David was also a founding member of No Man’s Land Gang – Cowboy Action Shooters. He loved playing cowboy just like when he was a boy. He even showed up to Alex’s western themed birthday party one year wearing his boots, spurs, and six shooters. He was also on the original board of commissioners for Beauregard Water Works District Six which was instrumental in bringing community water to the Junction area. His past time for the last several years has been flint knapping. He made all sorts of things and was proud to share them.

There was no place David would rather be than on top of that hill on Dude Hickman road with Nell. He said many times how thankful he was for Nell and not to let anyone tell us any different than she took the best care of him in the world. David would tell you it’s ok to be sad – for a little while. We know that he’s looking down on us from a better place and probably grumbling that we are making such a fuss. But he was an amazing husband, father, and Poppa and we know he meant so much to so many people.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Brother Eddie Corbett, Sr. will officiate the service. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers are: Jason Bryant, Alex Bryant, Steve Elliott, Eddie Corbett, Jr., Rickey Lynn Clark, Jr., Michael Clark, Hardy Myers, Elton Haves, Daryl Eaves, Ray (Booger) Blackwell, Fred Walker, Dale Beard, Chandler Stracner, Cheston Corbett and Charles McMillan. Burial will follow at Merryville Cemetery in Merryville, LA.
