The world has lost a true cowboy. Danny Rex Allen, 91, of DeRidder, made his final ride away from this earth peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, to a place where all cowboys dream of being. Known for his unwavering dedication to his family, Danny leaves behind a legacy of grit, hard work, and a deep love for his family and friends.
Born in East Point, Louisiana on February 1, 1933, to Hartwell and Mary Allen, Danny spent his life working cattle, raising his children, and becoming a respected figure among our area cattle auction barns. He was a loyal friend, a devoted husband, and a loving father and grandfather to all of his children.
He leaves behind his wife of forty-two years, Kay Allen. His children Chad Allen (wife Necole), Hunter Allen (wife Laramie), Barbara Prejean, Peggy Rivorie, Brenda Allen, Pam Gore (husband Dwight), Dani King (husband Kris),Tori Hernandez (husband David), Danielle Prejean, Abigail Prejean, Breann Prejean, TJ Prejean (wife Emily), Malayna Prejean Tyler (husband to be Casey), Trip Tyler, Teagon Tyler, Kaley Prejean, Ava Prejean, Levi Rivoire, Micah Rivoire, Elaina King LeBato (husband to be Braden), Claire King, Wesley Allen, Hadley Allen (Kolby), Elley Allen, Kinley McFarland (husband Mason), Jason McFarland, Lila McFarland, Andrew Gore, Audrey Gore, Steelie Allen, Gatlynn Allen, Ethan Hernandez, Evan Hernandez, Emilia Hernandez. Special family Nicole Allen, Leslie Choat (husband Kevin), Elizabeth Choat, Russell Choat (wife Kaleigh), Rilynn Choat, Huntley Choat, Patricia Bamburg (husband Tim), Chris Bamburg, Josh Bamburg, Jayden, Jaxon, and Cationa, Matthew Bamburg (wife Katlynn), and Rosie, Rhylan, and Zayne.
The thing about Danny, he treated all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren like they were his children. He took in sale barn boys and kids from down the road and offered them a place anytime they wanted. He was more than just a person you meet and forget. He loved every child and woman immediately. A kiss was his standard greeting whether you wanted it or not and a laugh was soon to follow. He lived his life the way he wanted to. He never regretted living the cowboy way and loving all the people that he met along the way. Countless numbers of people have called him Uncle: Uncle Danny, Uncle Boonie, or just Unc.
He once told about a dream he had; he felt like it was more than a dream. He was in a field made up of rolling hills and his old horse Trigger was grazing beneath him. He could hear his dogs off in the distance. He knew them all by sound, of course and told of how happy he was to hear them again. He got a little emotional at that point reminiscing on how at peace he was sitting on top of Trigger while he listened to the wind blow around him. The distant baying of dogs and bellowing of cattle could be heard. He felt like he had been shown a little glimpse of where he would get to spend eternity, and it was a place he longed to be.
His time on earth was not long enough and yet too long at the same time. A cowboy is meant to live and die in the saddle. He is finally back where he belongs. He joins loved ones there and leaves some behind here. There’s no doubt he is laughing with his parents and siblings again while Paw Peck and Aunt Dopie give him a hard time about taking so long to get there. He always ran on “Allen Time”. You can just imagine his parents are happy to have all of their children together again while his children here will miss him tremendously.
He is preceded in death by his parents Hartwell and Mary Allen, one brother Ray Allen, and his four sisters Opal Wren, Elvyn Allen, Marilyn Allen, and Melba Allen.
We, the family and friends of Danny Allen, will remember the times he made our lives good and the times he caused chaos just to watch it unfold and laugh. We can look back and be thankful for the lessons he taught us the easy way or the hard way because loving a man like him was accepting him for what he was just like he did with us.
His memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM, where friends and family are welcome to share stories and reminisce about the life of a true cowboy, Danny Rex Allen. Located at the Beauregard Parish Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall, 610 West Drive; DeRidder, Louisiana.
