It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles "Wayne" Bailey, a beloved father, friend, and craftsman, who left us on February 27, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on March 27, 1936, in DeRidder, Louisiana, Wayne lived a full life and made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. 

Wayne began his journey as a carpenter at the young age of 18, dedicating his skills to the construction industry and becoming a well-respected member of the community. He was proud to be part of a small graduating class of just six students at Dry Creek High School, where he became famous for an unforgettable stunt: wrestling a bear!

A member of the Masons, Wayne had a generous spirit and a good heart. He was an avid catfisherman and cherished the peacefulness of nature along the water. Music was another passion of his-Wayne loved to play his Martin guitar, filling the air with tunes that brought joy to those around him. 

Wayne was a dedicated sports fan as well, cheering enthusiastically for LSU sports and keeping an eye on the East Beauregard High School basketball team. Above all, he cherished watching his grandkids play sports, beaming with pride as they took to the field or court.

He was a longtime member of Beckwith Baptist Church, where he found community and support throughout his life.

Wayne is survived by his son, Harlan Bailey and Regina of DeRidder, LA; daughters, Felicia Bernal and J.B. of Terrell, TX, Candace Taylor and Bobby of Pitkin, LA; grandchildren, Christopher Bailey and Beth, LeAnna Bailey, Samantha Martin-Bailey, Noah Bailey, Hunter Blakeman and Kimberly, Paige Holley and Brandon, Coleman Bernal, Cami Bernal, Kyle Burks and Emily, Rodney Taylor and Jessica, Brian Taylor, Amanda Smith and Marques; twenty-one great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends, who will always carry his memory in their hearts.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Anita Lavelle Bailey; parents, Charles and Florida Bailey; siblings, Elaine Booty, Clifford Bailey, Vergie Alston, Tressie Harrington.

A graveside service will be held in his honor at Hopewell Cemetery on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Pallbearers will be Bobby Taylor, Kyle Burks, Hunter Blakeman, Horace Hebert. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Bailey, Noah Bailey and Harlan Bailey. Brother Eugene Williams will officiate the service. Family and friends are invited to join together to celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man.

Rest in peace, Wayne. You'll be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives you touched.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Dry Creek Baptist Camp in memory of Wayne Bailey.
