Canney Paul Granger, Jr.

Canney Paul Granger, Jr., 76, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, July 28, 2022.

In his early days, Canney enjoyed training and running quarter horses. He took great pride in the work he did with both training horses, and contractual work. He was a self-taught carpenter. His greatest accomplishments being the parking garage at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Lake Charles, and also was in charge of renovations for an upscale home in the Chesapeake Bay Area of Maryland. He was an avid outdoorsman, spending his free time on the river fishing or taking float trips down the Ouiska Chitto and Calcasieu River. He is remembered most for his story telling and ability to make people laugh. He was one of the very few people in the area who could still speak Cajun French and was proud of his heritage.  He was an excellent cook and loved to share a meal with family or friends. His family meant more to him than anything else. Later in his life he found joy in his grandchildren, riding his Harley, and spending time on the Sabine River at his camp. His contagious smile and young at heart spirit will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Kevin Granger and Melonie of DeQuincy, LA, Jason Paul Granger and Poppy of Dry Creek, LA; daughters, Megan Smith and Stephen of DeRidder, LA, Gabrielle Morrison and Conner of Virginia; brother, Daryl Granger and Renee of Oberlin, LA; sisters, Elaine Giles of Kinder, LA, Barbara Guidry and Richard of Oberlin, LA; grandchildren, Courtney Granger, Nathan Granger, Cameron Granger, Keri Granger, Scarlett Smith, Maverick Smith, Evie Smith; great grandchild, Truman Granger and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Hunter Hart; parents, Canney Granger, Sr. and Dorothy Granger.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeRidder, LA. Reverend V. Wayne LeBleu will officiate the service.
